Mineral Feeder
Before I constructed this, I followed instructions I found using a plastic garbage can with a flap cut in it. It was destroyed within a month. This may be on the expensive side to construct; however, in the long run, it is well worth it. It will last a lifetime. I also, originally, used 4-inch diameter PVC pipe. I felt the Babydolls had trouble fitting their muzzles into it to eat the mineral so switched to the 6-inch. mineral_feeder5.jpg
Items Needed:
1 - 6-inch diameter 45-degree why fitting (approximately $26.00) wye.jpg
2 - 6-inch diameter cleanout adapter fittings (approximately $9.00 each) cleanout adapter
2 - 6-inch diameter cleanout plug fittings (approximately $5.00 each) plug
1 - cane bolt (approximately $10.00 each)
The cane bolt I bought had a "nub" on it that I had to file off so it would fit into the eye bolts.

2 - 1/4X2 1/2 eye bolts (approximately $1.00 each)
Do not buy larger eye bolts because they will provide too much play for the cane bolt.

1 - empty Coffee-Mate container or similar 5-1/2 inches in diameter. It needs to fit inside the bottom of the wye. Coffee-mate
Items needed, not pictured - drill & file.
Construction:
Drill 2 holes in the wye for the 2 eye bolts. Make sure they are close enough that the cane bolt will be secured by them and the bottom one is high enough that the Coffee-mate container will not interfere with securing the nut on it. Put an eye bolt in each hole. eye bolt placement
Put one adapter in the top and the bottom of the wye. The adapter serves as the female portion. The plug is the male portion and fits into the adapter.

Put the Coffee-mate container into the bottom of the wye. The container serves as filler in the bottom of the wye so the mineral doesn't just stay there forever.
